BRINGING KIDS CLOSER TO CHRIST SINCE 1962
CLC is a non-profit, charitable organization owned and governed by the American Baptist Churches of Maine. We have been serving children, families and churches since 1962, and offer many unique camping opportunities each summer.
Additionally, our facilities and grounds are available to individuals, families, and churches who find themselves in need of some relaxation, spiritual direction, or a retreat from the day to day world. Our beautiful campus covers 260 acres and borders China Lake. You can find us on the Neck Road in China, Maine.
We have many recreation activities to offer as well as indoor and outdoor places for services and worship. We also rent out our gym and kitchen for community and family events throughout the year. Our rustic facilities allow one to get away from the rush of the world and to observe and appreciate God’s incredible creation. It’s our desire to provide a place and programs that will allow you to experience the fullness of Christ.
Whether you come for the day, week, or for an entire summer, we pray that your life will never be the same. Exciting things are happening and lifelong friends are being made. Come be a part of it!
From The Directors
“OH, THE LORD’S BEEN GOOD TO ME!”
We have seen God’s Spirit work in the lives of campers and guests as they mingle under the apple trees, congregate in the cabins, break bread in the dining hall, splash in the swim area, surrender to the Spirit in chapel, and bond as they traverse the trails here at China Lake Camp. This is a sacred piece of property which has been dedicated to Christian ministry, education, and hospitality since it was purchased in 1961. We are honored to be the latest in a long line of shepherds here, and we are humbled by the opportunity to forge the future links which will be the Christian church of the future here in the State of Maine and wherever our campers and guests are Called from here.
With God’s provision and the support of His ministry/ mission-minded children, we are maintaining the property and expanding the programming so that we can reach even more people with the Gospel message. It is no secret that Maine is nearly at the top of the list when it comes to unchurched citizens, and that all of New England falls in the top ten of most un-churched states according to some polls. Some polls even call Maine’s population “post-Christian…” While church attendance and personal faith are a rich part of our New England heritage, the majority of our neighbors have not kept the faith of their fathers for their own lives and for their families. This must be similar to what Christ encountered in His ministry; “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’” (Matthew 9:36-38)
We believe in the ministry need and potential at China Lake Camp. That is why we left our paying jobs when we got the Call to work here, and God has provided for and blessed us every day since. There is always more room for workers in the harvest; in our families, churches, homes, work, school, and at camp. Please join us in prayer, work, and support for the ministry of China Lake Camp. Lives are being transformed and God’s laborers are being trained and sent out into the harvest from China Lake Camp!
May God deeply bless you and yours!
